R-Value...
I had someone ask me the other day, "What is R-value and how does the rating number work??"
R-Value is the thermal resistance to prevent heat transfer. The reason we have insulation in the walls and ceilings of our homes is to prevent "heat transfer". So in the winter time, we want to keep our homes warm and in the summer time we want to keep our homes cool.
The higher the number the less heat transfer, or the better to a point. So a R-38 of attic insulation is better than a R-19. The next time you see some insulation, look on it and you will see that it's rated with a "R-Value"
